Sustainable paper and digital solutions at Kalaallit Nunaanni Brugseni

Brugseni's offer newspaper is read everyday by several 1000 people in Greenland. Therefore, we believe it is important that they have the least possible impact on the environment.

As a retail company, one of our strongest marketing channels is the printed offer newspapers. In 2019, a total of 994,100 offer newspapers were distributed to households, which is an increase of 94,500. compared to the previous year. This increase has come as a result of the opening of our newest store in Ilulissat. We therefore want to do our part to ensure that we produce our weekly printed matter at a printing company that has the necessary certifications within more environmentally friendly production.

Our offer newspapers therefore have the Nordic Ecolabel and Ecolabel and FSC certification, which ensures that the paper is produced from ethically responsible sources that live up to both Nordic and European standards for environmental responsibility.

In addition, since 2018, we have taken new paperless initiatives into use, including the Brugseni app, which provides completely new opportunities for trade, marketing and communication. The Brugseni app is currently used by more than 60% of our active members, who thereby all have access to, among other things, the digital offer newspaper as well as other membership offers, membership benefits and digital payment solutions.

Through the digital paperless solutions, we want to influence the consumer, so that in the long run we can to a greater extent switch to digital marketing as our primary marketing channel. Throughout 2019, we have noticed increasing interest from our members in this area, and therefore this part of our focus area will continue to develop in the years to come. We produce a total of 20,000 newspapers per. week, which is distributed to households in all the cities that Brugseni is represented.

A citizen in the Nuuk area receives household-distributed advertisements from Brugseni, which in 2019 corresponded to 1320 printed pages per year. Every time we get a customer converted to use only the digital solutions and put a "No thanks for advertisements" on the mailbox, we will potentially be able to save advertising printed matter, corresponding to about 5 phonebooks per year per. household in Nuuk.
