COVID-19, The Global Goals and a Greenland free of corruption

Transparency International Greenland

Corruption is a serious threat to achieving the Global Goals. Transparency International Greenland (TIG) is an NGO working for a Greenland free of corruption.

TIG works purposefully for Global Goal 16, Peace, Justice and strong institutions. This includes sub-goal 16.5. Reduce corruption and bribery of all kinds. The UN states that without peace, there can be no sustainable development, Transparency International (TI) expands by stating that corruption is one of the most serious threats to democracy and equality.

The COVID-19 pandemic is a serious threat to anti-corruption, good governance and the development of society. In the years 2021-2022, TI has decided to focus on the consequences of COVID-19. In May 2020, TIG held a debate event on Greenland during the Corona crisis. Have the restrictions curtailed fundamental freedoms and weakened democracy, and has there been sufficient transparency? was debated on the basis of legislative changes in Denmark and Greenland and seen in the light of Human Rights.

In the coming years, TIG will continue to be a watchdog and draw attention to when there is a lack of transparency in the legislative work. The work can be followed on the website for Transparency Greenland and on the association's Facebook page.
